Workin' 9 to 5!

Well hello there!

I'm actually working more like 10-7, but whatever. The point is that I have started my touring job and everything is up and running. We are currently doing our first load-in of the fall leg of the tour in Edmonds, WA. The load-in is just for tech, we actually load out and into another venue for opening this Wednesday.

I really like the people here which is what I was most worried about. I haven't really found a rhythm with the work that I am doing, but it will come - I am still new to the process.

Last night I had dinner with my friend Ben from CMU. It was nice to see a familiar face and the food was great. He had to drive a half hour out of Seattle to meet me, and a half hour back - so I hope my company was worth it.

On a side note the wardrobe supervisor just asked:
Was Jesus alive before the dinosaurs or after the dinosaurs?
I thought it was good for a laugh.

A brand new day

I have safely arrived in Seattle, WA for the start of the tour!

Catching Up & Saying Farewell

This was my last weekend in LA before I head out on tour - I can't believe it's already here. I have been scuttling about taking care of everything I need to address before I leave town for 2 months. It has been crazy. I had promised a lot of people to do a lot of stuff before I left, and now I am attempting to deliver on all of it. It's a bit of a challenge, really.

Friday night when I got home from working at Maxine's house I was starving so I made myself a huge bowl of homemade General Tso's Chicken and chased it with going out to Yogurtiers for some custom-delicious yogurt. After eating so much so quickly I got really sick, threw up, and went to bed super-early (bailing on the evening of fun everyone else had at a nearby bar playing pool). I was lame.

But since I went to bed early, I woke up early and feeling much better on Saturday. Since I wasn't working for Maxine, I got up and ran a lot of errands I have been needing to take care of prior to rolling out of LA. I went to target and spent $110 on a scale (which I am going to take on the road with the hope that it will help me stick to my weight loss goals), a watch, a pedometer, some clothes, and other stuff. Then I went to Payless (to pick up shoes that I had delivered to the store about 3 weeks ago) and Old Navy (which is having an amazing sale and you can get pretty much any shirt you want for $4 or less - my favorite style was only $2.25 a piece, so I cleaned house and only spent like $25).

On my way back from the mall, Joe and I met for lunch at Chipotle - something we have been meaning to do for quite some time (another 'before I leave for LA' task down). A little while later, I went to see The Informant with Jason (another friend I know from CMU who lives out here). After the movie (which was over by 6 PM) we went to my favorite restaurant for drinks and appetizers. It was nice to catch up a bit with one another. We had planned to hang out last weekend at Disney Land, but it ended up not working out due to sickness, tardiness, and other obstacles beyond my control.

After a hug good night I was on my way back home. When I got to my apartment, I unlocked the door only to be greeted by pitch black turning to shockingly bright full of my friends audible SURPRISE sensory overload moment. Sam and Brianna got me good - and it was a lovely surprise going away party. We used the BBQ pits at the apartment complex and went out for dessert at 1 AM. It was really sweet and nice to have a chance to say thank you and goodbye to pretty much everyone I know on this coast.

This morning I woke up really early and went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in digital 3D with Rustin. The showing was at 10:30 AM - because I had to work at 1 PM. It was a great movie - perfect for kids and the 3D was really well done. It also had a good balance of high humor for adults, so I really enjoyed it. It was a nice final outing with Rustin - we had planned on seeing it the weekend before I left, so another check marked on that list.

After the movie I called Maxine to confirm my arrival time, and she said that she wasn't up to working today so I got a nice surprise day off. Sam, Brianna and I hit up Old Navy, and met Derek at a sports bar on our way back so that we could watch the Steelers game (yes, it was an unfortunate disappointment to lose 17-14 after missing 2 field goals in the game). After that I went home, took a nap, woke up to watch the majority of the Emmys, and am now off to bed once again.

It was a good (very active and busy) weekend. As long as I keep myself preoccupied, I can't dwell on the fact that I am going to miss it here. I am going to miss it a lot.

Struggling

I think I am really wrestling with my PCOS lately. I feel like I have lost my personality spark over the last several weeks, am struggling with weight loss, and feel groggy most of the time. If I had health insurance, I would go see a doctor to talk about options and stuff, but all I can do is read online. The real problem is that online everyone just says to seek medical advice - I just want someone to tell me what the medical advice is. I just read a really long article about how I REALLY shouldn't be drinking diet soda - so I think tomorrow I am going to try to get that to kick the bucket. We'll see.

Every Mama Needs a Baby

I have to use my camera at work on Wednesday, so I was clearing off the memory card and found this. Its funny because I think it is a beautiful picture, but it reminds me of all of those really high contrast black and white photos moms usually stereotypically get taken holding their new borns. Puppy new-born!

Do you see the puppy?

There he is!!!!

Sonic Boom! (Boom!)

So Sam & I got to experience something REALLY cool yesterday.

We were both sitting on the couch and we heard two loud thud-like crashes in our living room. At first we thought it was a gigantic car accident on the road right outside of our apartment so we both shot up and looked off the balcony but saw nothing. We continued to speculate - maybe there was an accident in the parking garage across the street and we just can't see it, or maybe it was gun shots coming from downtown Burbank. But after assuring ourselves that we were indeed safe - and had no idea what had happened - and realized speculating was much more of a waste of our time than whatever reality TV we were watching - we turned back to the boob tube.

Later that night, Joe & Derek had two friends over and we hung out a lot to play some foosball and card games. One of the guys asked if any of us had heard the space shuttle reentering the atmosphere that day. We were like... uh, what? He went on to say that we would have heard a double sonic boom that could have been strong enough to break windows where we live.

Sam & I heard a double sonic boom. How cool is that?!

The Discovery Space Shuttle reentered the earth's atmosphere right here off the coast of CA. I have since done a bit more research about it - since I was (a) curious and (b) there isn't a NASA station anywhere near here. Apparently the weather was too bad (and had been bad for quite some time since they were supposed to land several days ago) for the shuttle to land near Florida (NASA's primary shuttle base), which is why they decided to land here.

Holla!

I have some good (not great, but good) news.

The other day - who calls me? Low and behold, Maxine Lapiduss. For those of you having trouble recalling this name, please see this blog entry:
She asked me if I was working and I said not currently, but I am leaving on the 24th to go on tour with a musical.

I am going to be her part time assistant between now and when I leave for the tour. Yes, it's a little bizarre, but its some cash in hand (I haven't had an income since the first week of June, so you will have to understand this professional compromise).

Other than this recent development lately, I have been very busy lately getting things started for the tour and exercising (25 lbs down since the start of Challenge: 100!) and having fun. It's a little boring at home, but I am slowly becoming more and more productive and developing better work and sleep habits than I have been exercising lately.

This Thanksgiving I am going to cook my own turkey! How exciting is that?! Everyone is cooking something, and Derek's parents are coming out here to celebrate with us, but I get the Turkey! I guess I better not screw it up. It's kind of important, ya know?

Oh, and if there is anyone residing in LA that doesn't have a place to go (or can't get there), please feel welcome in our celebration! We are going to borrow a few tables from Derek's work and push them together to make a big square and it's going to be awesome. :)

It gives you an idea of where I will be when this fall (though I already have conflicting information). I'll be sure to post changes as I get them.

I had a conference call for my job the other day, and I am now functioning with a new purpose in life - actually getting things done. And frankly already wow-ing people with my ability to use technology and output high-quality work quickly. It's not very difficult to appear that way when everyone you work for is old and confused (not that there is anything wrong with that, just perhaps not the most efficient type of person, eh?).

Number one goal for today is to talk to my student loan company and figure out what is going on. I wish I had been a little bit more responsible and attentive when I was signing up for all of those.

Something Scary...

Check this out - you might understand why it gave me the heebie jeebies.

Fall 09 Tour Schedule

Here is the much awaited schedule. By the looks of things I won't really be headed out east until the Spring tour.

In case you missed it

I just found the CMU school paper online with the article about my Women's Association Scholarship. See page three here:
